This week I attended IAA Mobility 2025, a future-focused event showcasing innovations from electrification to software-defined vehicles. ➤ Key industry highlights: 🔹 VW unveiled the ID. CROSS Concept and a new small EV family from 2026. 🔹 Porsche introduced the most anticipated advanced feature, EV Wireless Charging. Up to 11kW AC power, 90% efficiency, solution within 2 box system (i.e. car module and base plate). Cayenne Electric 2026 will be the first vehicle capable to be equipped with this system. 🔹 BMW: launched the new iX3 (Neue Klasse) with 400 kW charging, SDV platform, 6th-gen eDrive, and Panoramic iDrive (March 2026). 🔹Mercedes-Benz: presented the new CLA, GLC, and an all-electric GLC with MB.OS. 🔹 CUPRA: revealed the Tindaya Concept and teased the Raval EV. 🔹 Renault: showcased the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric (Car of the Year 2025) and Renault 5 Turbo 3E. 🔹 TOGG: displayed T10F and T10X, highlighting 5-star Euro NCAP safety. ➤ Chinese OEMs expanded their footprint: 🔹 GAC is entering European markets with the Aion V full electric and plans to launch the Aion UT crossover in 2026. Other models included E9, GS7 PHEV, and a concept called GOVY AirCab for low-altitude mobility. 🔹 XPENG showcased P7+, next P7, G6, G9 and X9. 🔹 Dongfeng presented Fengxing Xinghai S7 REEV and Fengxing Yacht U Tour PHEV. 🔹 AITO exhibited AITO 5, 7 and 9. 🔹 Changan showcased its SDA intelligent platform and Golden Shield battery technology. Also showcased Avatr and Deepal products such as Avatr 06, Avatr 07, Avatr 11 Royal Edition and Avatr 012 as well as Deepal S05 and S07. 🔹 BYD showcased SEAL, SEAL 6 DM-i, ATTO 3, SEALION 7, Dolphin Surf, DENZA Z9GT and D9 MPV while demonstrating 1000kW flash charging. ➤ Suppliers also impressed me, some key highlights: 🔹 Bosch: new MEMS sensors for ADAS & ESP. 🔹 BorgWarner: range extenders, inverters, thermal systems. 🔹 DeepDrive: MG250 dual-rotor generator for range extenders. 🔹 Aumovio: debut with EV brake calipers, night vision, and Xelve AD system. 🔹 AGC: solar panoramic roof (VIPV) for auxiliary loads. 🔹 Qualcomm: SDV, AI & connectivity; Snapdragon Ride Pilot with BMW iX3, Cockpit & Digital Chassis for Mercedes CLA & GLC; collaboration with Google Cloud (Gemini AI). 🔹 CATL: new LFP battery—safer, 12-year life, and ultra-fast charging (478 km WLTP in 10 minutes). ➤ Personal Takeaways: 🔹China expands with low-cost, fast-charging EVs; Europe answers with affordable models, better tech, and agile software. 🔹SDVs are here—BMW–Qualcomm and MB–Qualcomm drive high-compute ECUs, OTA updates, and unified roadmaps. 🔹Batteries improve with longer life, faster charging, safer chemistry, and greater range.
