Pivot tables in Explore and Canvas dashboards now support conditional formatting: define value-based rules to color cells by measure, including a "lower is better" option for reversed scales. Rules are saved as part of the dashboard state: they persist when you switch table types and reset when you change the underlying metrics view.

Canvas PDF exports can now be scheduled and delivered by email — a great way to send a weekly snapshot to stakeholders. Tab groups are included in the export.

🔐 Securely Invite Users with Custom Attributes​

Custom user attributes can now be passed in and assigned at invite time, from either the UI or the CLI, for organization and project invites. Attributes are stored on the invite and applied to the membership once it is accepted, so users whose dashboard access depends on these attributes are correctly handled from their very first login. No additional steps required.

📊 Metrics Views now Include Explore Dashboards​

A metrics view YAML can now define its Explore dashboard configuration inline, using a new explore key. Now a single metrics view file contains both the semantic model and its dashboard configuration, making every metrics view explorable by default. The inline block accepts the same field selectors as standalone explores (wildcards, explicit lists, regex, and exclusions), and existing explore files continue to work unchanged. Canvas Tab Groups​

Canvas dashboards now support tab groups, so you can organize a large dashboard into tabs instead of one long scroll. Mix regular rows with one or more tab groups on the same canvas — for example, an overview up top with tabs for each region or product line below. Only the active tab loads its data, so dashboards stay fast even as the number of tabs grows. In the visual canvas editor you can add, rename, reorder, and delete tabs, turn existing rows into a tab group, and drag components between tabs.

Canvas PDF Export​

Canvas dashboards can now be downloaded as a PDF straight from the Share menu — perfect for sending a snapshot to stakeholders who aren't in Rill.

Tags for All Resources​

Building on last release's tags for dimensions and measures, tags can now be added to any resource — dashboards, models, metrics views, and more. Each dashboard shows its tags in the project dashboard list, and a new tag filter on the project home page makes it easy to find the right dashboard in a large project — filter to "Marketing", "Finance", or whatever grouping fits your team. Tags can be managed from the visual editor, and a feature flag lets you browse tags as folders in the sidebar.

URI Dimensions as Links Everywhere​

Dimensions that link to a URL — like a campaign, ad, or page dimension — were previously only clickable in the leaderboard. Now they're clickable everywhere values appear: the dimension table, pivot tables, and Time Dimension Detail. Hover over a value and jump straight to the underlying page in a new tab, without leaving your analysis. See uri in the metrics view reference to set this up.

Cloud Editing Improvements​

Cloud Editing (beta) got a significant round of polish this release:

• Preview changes before publishing: the Merge/Publish flow now lists every changed file with a full side-by-side diff, so you can see exactly what you're about to publish.
• Undo changes from the UI: made an edit you don't want to keep? You can now revert a single file, revert a selected set of files, or discard all changes — each behind a confirmation so nothing is lost by accident.
• Fixed an issue with edit session getting stuck at "Starting" when resumed, along with several smaller issues in the editing experience.

Personal Canvas Dashboards (Beta)​

You can now build your own personal canvas dashboards directly from the project home page in Rill Cloud. Personal dashboards are private to you and stay out of the project's shared dashboard list — a great way to experiment with your own views of the data. When one is ready for a wider audience, share it with the project in one click. Available in beta behind the personal_canvases feature flag.

Databricks Connector​

Rill now supports Databricks in two modes. As a live OLAP connector, metrics views and dashboards can be built on top of existing tables with no data copy. As a data source connector, Rill ingests Databricks data into the OLAP engine for modeling and transformation. Both are available from the "Add Data" flow in the UI.

Metrics View Rollups and Intelligent Query Routing​

Rollups let a metrics view be backed by one or more pre-aggregated tables in addition to the base table. When a query's time grain, dimensions, measures, time range, and filters all match a rollup, Rill transparently rewrites the query to read from the smaller rollup table for faster results, falling back to the base table otherwise. This release adds support for static data ranges, rollup priorities, and comparison queries against rollups.

Required Filters​

You can now mark a dashboard filter as required using the new * toggle next to the pin button in the dimension and measure filter dropdowns.

Tags for Dimensions and Measures​

Dimensions and measures can be annotated with tags in the metrics view. The dimension and measure dropdowns support tag-based filtering to narrow a long list to a relevant group, and tags are carried through to pivot tables. This makes large metrics views considerably easier to navigate.

Cloud Editing (Beta)​

Projects can now be edited directly in Rill Cloud without leaving the browser. An edit session provisions a dedicated dev deployment on a branch where you can make changes to project files, preview the results live, and then Publish or Merge to production through the UI. Cloud Editing ships in this release as a beta behind the cloud_editing feature flag.

Scatter Plot in Canvas​

Model Exports​

We're proud to introduce the ability to export data from Rill on a continuous basis. You can now set up scheduled exports of models to object storage such as S3 and GCS, exporting models from Rill as parquet files for downstream processing.

Alternate Time Dimension Selection​

You can now select an alternative time dimension directly in Explore dashboards! Switch between different timestamps (e.g., created_at vs updated_at) without modifying your metrics view definition. The time dimension picker is available in the time range dropdown, and all time-dependent queries automatically update to use your selected dimension.

Dark Mode​

We are now introducing dark mode to the entire product! Switch between light and dark mode from your profile, upload a dark mode variant of your logo and use custom themes prepared for dark mode! Oh, if you are embedding Rill you also have the ability to toggle dark mode as part of the Embed API.

With the introduction of dark mode some theme properties have changed, your existing themes are backwards compatible but we do recommend you start using the new property names going forward. You can find those by creating a new theme and the default file will have all the new property names populated for you.

Default Filters for Canvas​

Set up default filters and pin your most important dimensions for quick access! When you're working with large metrics views, it can be a daunting task to sift through all the available dimensions and measures. With default filters, you can build Canvas dashboards that automatically set filters on dimensions by default and pin the ones that matter most—so your users don't have to hunt for them!

Dynamic Markdown​

We're introducing dynamic content in Markdown components! You can now template Metrics SQL queries directly into your Canvas dashboard that automatically react to user filters, creating a fully dynamic markdown experience. Want to take it even further? You can render HTML too! Plus, we're making the backend endpoint public so you can easily build your own programs and workflows that need access to templated data.

Pivot Display Limits​

Introducing a toggle to limit the number of dimensional rows that are visible in the pivot table. This allows you to reduce the cognitive load when interacting with a pivot table. Note that this is a display limit only, totals, exports and reports still operate on the full dataset.

Query Attributes​

If you're using ClickHouse, you can now append query attributes that access dynamic user attributes. This is super useful if you want to send along, for example, a user ID or email to route or filter views in ClickHouse based on Rill user context. Or if you want to build your own usage reporting based on queries issued to your ClickHouse instance.

Explain Anomalies​

Chat in Rill Cloud now has access to full dashboard context, including filters, time ranges, and dimension selections. This allows AI to provide more relevant and accurate responses based on exactly what you're viewing in your dashboard.

Choose How Your Reports Are Delivered​

We've added more flexibility to how you share reports with your team and stakeholders. You can now choose between two delivery modes when creating a report:

Recipient Mode is perfect for internal distribution lists and team members who need personalized access. When you send a report in Recipient mode, each person who clicks the link will be prompted to log in, and they'll see the dashboard with their own access permissions applied. This means if someone shouldn't see certain data based on your security policies, they won't—even though everyone received the same report link. It's a great way to share insights across your organization while maintaining data governance.

Creator Mode (the default) is ideal when you're sharing reports with external partners, clients, or anyone who doesn't have a Rill account. Recipients get a link to view the dashboard with your permissions, but locked to the specific filters and time range you set when creating the report. No login required, no hassle—just instant access to the exact view you want them to see. They can also download the data directly from the email, making it easy to work with the insights offline.

Dynamic Height for Embedded Dashboards​

If you've embedded Rill dashboards into your applications, you know the pain of dealing with double scrollbars—one for your page, one for the iframe. We've solved that with a new dynamic height feature.

Simply append dynamic_height=true to your embed URL, and the dashboard will automatically size itself to fit its content and emit resize events whenever the dashboard changes size. This lets you dynamically adjust your iframe height to perfectly match the dashboard, creating a seamless, native-feeling experience in your application. No more awkward scrollbars within scrollbars!

Introducing AI Agents for Rill​

We've been working hard over the last couple of months to bring an agentic AI workflow to Rill. Building on our existing MCP (Model Context Protocol) server integration, we're now introducing project-wide chat in Rill, which is our first interactive agent of many to come.

The project agent helps you quickly analyze data, ask open-ended questions, and have the AI spot patterns and anomalies in your datasets. But it's not just a chatbot—you always have a dashboard ready to back up any responses from the AI. With just a click, you can augment the AI's insights with your own knowledge, truly bringing machine and human intelligence together.

New Time Syntax​

We’re excited to announce a major release: a brand-new time syntax in the product.
Until now, time ranges relied on ISO durations, such as P7D to represent the previous seven days. While standard, ISO durations introduced ambiguity around complete periods, the handling of latest data, and felt rigid for users defining their own time ranges.

To address these challenges, we designed an entirely new syntax for expressing time. This syntax is now available across the product and gives you precise control over time ranges, grains, and reference points.

Not sure where to start? The new time picker makes it simple—point and click to build the exact time range you want, without needing to remember the syntax.

Multiple Metrics and Combo Chart​

For your Canvas dashboards, you can now add multiple metrics to bar and line charts to easily compare metrics across dimensions. In addition, we are also adding a new chart type: the Combo chart. It allows you to visualize a bar metric and a line metric in the same visualization with two separate scales.

Use the Embed API with Canvas​

The Embed API now supports Canvas dashboards! You can listen for changes, and set or get dashboard state directly from the embedding page. Stay tuned—more methods are coming soon.

Start Rill Developer with automatic credential syncing​

When you run rill start, Rill will now automatically pull the latest credentials from Rill Cloud if you’re authenticated.
No more starting a project only to realize your local credentials are out of date!

Configure connections with simpler forms​

Many of our connector forms have gotten a facelift—they’re now cleaner and easier to configure.

Navigate Explore dashboards in embeds​
