Home Feed does not show releases #146124

Since a few weeks ago the Home Feed, has not been receiving updates not showing any of my starred repositories activities, releases etc. It does not even show the past activity that I used to see. Basically I have an empty dashboard which is quite useless. Anyone experience a similar problem or know how to solve this? |

If your GitHub Home Feed isn't updating or showing activity, here are a few steps to try: Check GitHub Status: Visit GitHub Status to see if there are any ongoing issues with their services. Clear Browser Cache & Cookies: This can resolve issues caused by outdated data. Try clearing your browser cache and reloading the page. Try Incognito Mode/Another Browser: Use a different browser or open GitHub in an incognito/private window to rule out browser extensions causing the issue. Check Notification Settings: Ensure your notification settings are correct and you're still following the repositories you expect to see updates from. You can verify this in GitHub Notifications Settings. Check "Watching" & "Starring" Settings: Ensure you've "watched" repositories for full activity updates, not just starred them. I have created a Ticket about this and asked the GitHub Support to forward this issue to a GitHub Developer. I will keep you updated on this: STATUS: Ticket answered. I still have this issue, but for me, it seems very unpredictable, as i sometimes see repository info and sometimes do not. If i change the "Filter" settings (just so that i trigger some sort of an update), my feed might include repositories, or might not (repository feed must of course be checked when changing the settings). |

yeah this is likely what caused it to show some things for me last week and then prompted me to call this issue answered. |

I am experiencing the same issue from a few weeks, that is the home feeds no longer display the new releases on the repositories. I tried to change filter selections and sometimes it shows the releases correctly at first attempt, and then no longer displays them. Quite an embarrassing situation I would say. Can it be restored to a working version, please? |

Yes, a week ago changing the filter options would have re-updated the home feed star repository, but in the last week this has not worked either, and there is currently no way to see the latest updates to the favorite repositories in the home feed! |

An additional side note, I just happened to categorize my STAR repositories a week ago using the newly introduced Collections Repository Grouping feature, that couldn't have caused this, could it? |
No. I did not change anything to stared repositories and it is broken too. Gets more and more broken each day. Now it does not show releases at all and the things it shows are in reverse order with 3 months ago at the top. |

I'm having the same issue. I can't seem to see the latest release updates. Before, I was able to show release updates by changing filters. Now, even after changing various filters, my home page can only show announcement updates. |

Same issue, the behavior of the feed changed for me in the last week or so, on mobile and in the browser. Starred repositories would normally have releases and announcements from starred repositories but now it's just announcements. I've played wit5h the filter settings and made sure "Include events from starred repositories" is enabled but still nothing except announcements. |

My "Explore" feature becomes completely empty except "Github Recommended", both in browser and mobile app. I have tried sign in from Chrome in "Incognito" mode, nothing there either. |

@hundehausen Is the green loading bar at the top of the page still present? Are there any errors reported in the browser console? I have about 200 stared repos and it takes 3 to 4 minutes to load them all, but it does eventually get there. If there is a bug that is stopping all repos from eventually loading, and you're able to provide any information that can help me track it down, I'd be most appreciative. I want it to work well for others as it does for me. The reason it takes a while is because of github graphql limitations. It can only load about 5 repos per request otherwise I hit network timeouts from github because of the amount of data I'm trying to request. Also, the graphql API loads repos from oldest starred repo to newest by default, which is not ideal since repos you starred recently tend to be the more active ones. But when I tried reversing it (i.e. STARRED_AT DESC) I also get timeouts - likely a missing DB index on github's side. |

@KieranP waiting helps! I have 1200 Repos starred, so it takes some minutes. After 60 % have loaded, I get lots of network errors. Error code 504 CORS errors. |

Some release notes are very long, it would be better to display only some lines and then expand to see the full release notes. Otherwise I have to scroll a lot. |

@hundehausen Ok, thanks for that information. I will have a think about what could be done to improve performance, but sadly the graphql limitations are pretty restrictive. Case in point: Pagination must be done using database cursors. This stops me from, for example, 1) fetching multiple pages in parallel because I don't know the next pages cursor until I fetch the one before it, 2) being able to cache results locally and fetch only from the last fetched page onwards, because the cursors will be different next time the results are fetched. I'll ponder on this a bit and have a crack at some different approaches later this week. As for the long release notes, this is a good point. I'll add this to my list of improvements. 👍 |

@hundehausen I have implemented some performance improvements (fetching the release descriptions in separate requests). My feed with about 200 starred repos used to load in around 3m 45s. It now loads in just under 1m. I would be interested to know if these changes have made it possible for you to load all your 1200 starred repos now. I'll continue to investigate methods to make it even faster. |

I understand your frustration. But seriously, the steps that can be taken in the suggested answer should help, especially for folks who still haven't gotten through one of those few troubleshooting common steps. I'm testing out a new AI bot found on Llama 3.1 to keep consistency in responses. The information shared would, thus, be correct; just probably less personalized. @mohamedayoub97 The issue from what I can see on my end is with the data being returned from Github, so steps #1 through #4 won't really change anything. The only thing that sometimes makes a difference is step #5, but not often enough to be reliable. Hence why I created https://kieranp.github.io/Github-Releases-Feed/ - albeit users with 1000s of starred repos are having issues with my feed service as well :-( I'm going to try see what I can do to resolve that when I get a chance. |
the only one that SOMETIMES works is the step 5. 1 out of 10 works, but it's frustratiting |

All of these suggested actions were mentioned in one or more posts above; I believe @mohamedayoub97 was just using AI to collate all the suggested possible actions in to a single post (to what end, not certain, as none of them are confirmed fixes). For anyone else with the same problem - until we hear an update from @Felitendo who contacted GitHub Support, there does not appear to be a fix. |

I also have more than 400 starred repositories, but not all new releases are shown—only a few randomly. Here is the current state: The Home Feed is shown once without any filters and once with the "Releases" + "Include events from starred repositories" filters. As an example, I have also included two releases out of many that are not displayed, even though the repositories are starred. |

I also have 260 starred repositories. Being a web developer, I can say, that it is totally normal to be interested in multiple fields regarding development, devops, security, monitoring, security, foss tools and so on. So 100 starred repositories isn't really that much. But I'm happy, that my feed seems to work again. Although I'm not sure which or how many of my starred repositories are actually feeding it. |
That's suuuper helpful feedback @EvilBMP -- I'm going to share this with our team. Do you have another threshold that you feel might work? I can see if we can work with the team to adjust to something that feels more appropriate but we needed a limit of some sort so that feeds stopped erroring out from overload in the short term. |

@aspeckofdustin Thank you for your response. I see why you need some kind of threshold for the API. To answer your question, actually I think the 100 repositories threshold could be fine. But then the personal "explore" feed should not simply be fed with the latest 100 starred repositories. Instead, it should be fed with the repositories which have the most activity. So, like the sort order of my starred repositories which by default is "Recently starred", but could be changed to "Recently active". In my opinion, that would make much more sense. Missing "news/ releases" from repositories that were starred some time ago, though still in active development, then won't be missed only because they are behind the "recent 100 starred repositories" threshold. |

Unfortunately, my Home Feed has stopped updating again. The latest entry is from 4 days ago, and all filters are disabled. From what I can see, many other users are experiencing the same issue as well. Could the team please investigate? I'm happy to provide additional details if needed. |

Still not resolved. My personal dashboard feed stopped receiving updates three days ago (June 19, 2026). No new activities from starred repositories, releases, or followed users are showing. The issue persists despite clearing cache and checking notification settings. I can provide more diagnostic information if it would help with troubleshooting. |

I have opened an official GitHub bug report regarding this issue. The report documents that the Home Feed appears to be stuck and no longer receives new activity, with affected users reporting the latest feed entries around June 17, 2026. Hopefully this helps GitHub investigate and identify whether there is a backend issue affecting multiple accounts. I'll post any updates here if I receive a response from GitHub Support. |

Update: GitHub Support has confirmed that this is a known issue affecting multiple users. The problem is currently under investigation, and my report has been added to the existing internal tracking ticket. GitHub is actively working on it and will share updates when available. |

My release has been updated, but the release page can’t show content from more than a week ago. It only displays what happened in the last day, and everything before that shows as “last week.” There’s still a bit of a bug. |
