About us

Amnesty International is a global movement of people fighting injustice and promoting human rights. We work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. Currently the world’s largest grassroots human rights organization, we investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world. We received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving work. Amnesty International USA is the US National section of Amnesty International.

  • Congress must re-establish asylum protections and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the 1.3 million people that the Supreme Court’s latest rulings now endanger. The rulings empower the Trump administration to send protected people from 17 countries including Haiti and Syria back into danger - a clear violation of international law. Instead of doubling down on racist and anti-immigrant practices and policies, the United States should be restoring access to asylum at the border and creating an immigration system that is fair and rooted in human rights. #HumanityMustWin

  • On Juneteenth, Amnesty International USA renews its calls for members of Congress to co-sponsor HR-40 and S-40. These bills would create a commission to investigate the legacy of chattel slavery and its ongoing harms, and develop reparations proposals for Black Americans in the U.S. The legacies of chattel enslavement can be identified in every facet of US society ranging from THE criminal justice system to healthcare to education, including the active erasure of Black Americans’ historical contributions from schools’ education curriculum. Reparations is a human right, and it is long overdue. Take Action: https://bit.ly/4fTAESb

  • 🚨The recent images of Dr. Hussam Abu Safyia are shocking evidence of Israel's abuse against Palestinian detainees. Dr. Abu Safyia has been arbitrarily detained for one and a half years without charges, while being physically abused and denied healthcare. His recent solitary confinement adds a further layer of concerns over his deteriorating health. Dr. Abu Safyia must be immediately and unconditionally released. Israel must release all Palestinians arbitrarily detained. States must pressure Israel to stop abusing Palestinian prisoners. Take action now to demand his release: https://bit.ly/4twnayK

  • Tonight, the U.S. kicks off its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on home soil with Paraguay vs the USA. But the game goes beyond what happens on the pitch. When it comes to human rights, the governments of every nation still have work to do to. As the 2026 World Cup gets underway, we're calling on the governments of host and participating countries to show that respect for human rights is part of the game, too. Because when the ball starts rolling, humanity must win. ➡️ Take action now: https://bit.ly/4oAag1R

  • "The United States government has intentionally killed at least 205 people outside any lawful circumstances—and the operation is still ongoing. These extrajudicial killings are a form of murder," writes Amnesty International's National Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, Amanda Klasing, in The Bulwark. • Entire Palestinian communities are disappearing from the map. This is no accident. As Israeli settlement expansion accelerates across the occupied West Bank, families are being forced from their homes, villages are being emptied, and lives are being uprooted. The erasure of Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank is systematic, state-driven, and accelerating as you read this. Swipe to see what’s happening in Area C of the West Bank, and why the world cannot look away. Entire Palestinian communities across Area C of the occupied West Bank are being erased from lands they have lived on for generations by Israel's accelerating policy of ethnic cleansing and annexation. Sign the petition and call on world leaders to halt Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank now and end its unlawful occupation - https://bit.ly/4xpBBrG #StopIsraelsEthnicCleansing

  • By approving billions in new funding for ICE and CBP despite ongoing reports of human rights violations and other abuses, lawmakers have shamefully rewarded agencies that have carried out militarized raids, unlawful arrests and detention, racial profiling, and other actions that have terrorized communities across the country. The approval of nearly $70 billion for ICE and CBP doubles down on fear, violence and tearing families apart and gives a nod to the Trump administration that it is free to continue this disastrous and cruel system without facing accountability. More than 60,000 Amnesty International members and supporters urged Congress to reject this funding. We will continue fighting to end mass detention, abusive enforcement practices, and policies that separate families and undermine human rights.

    • The image features a protest with individuals holding a large sign that reads "ICE OUT!" An American flag is visible in the background. Text above reads, "In shameful vote, Congress gives 70 billion to ongoing cruelty against immigrants." The Amnesty International logo is seen.
