Some collected documentation-only changes. Fixes #4482, #4634.
The changes to the diff documentation are quite large, but the gist is that I moved the overview/terminology that wouldn't display inline into each structure, which ended up by giving a thorough look through all documentation. Some are minor formatting changes, but I ended up rewriting complete descriptions to hopefully make them clearer (mostly around rename thresholds), so please give those a hard look.
