DrupalCamp

LocalGov Drupal Camp 2026 was held on 11th and 12th June in the city of Sheffield in the north of England. I drove over the Pennines from my home in Cheshire to attend the camp for the two days.

LocalGov Drupal, in case you weren't aware, is a Drupal distribution that is set up in a way that makes it easy for councils to publish their content. Since it's built on Drupal the sites can also make use of the many Drupal modules available. There are also lots of additional LocalGov Drupal modules that integrate with waste collection systems, bus timetables, election results, and many more.

Last year, LocalGov Drupal was being used by 57 council websites across the UK. This year, that figure has jumped to 73! A fantastic achievement, with that number only set to get bigger.

The camp itself consisted of a Wednesday night social night, a day of talks and other sessions, followed by a day of workshops and sprints.

The weekend of 28th February to the 1st March saw the second DrupalCamp England event with around 100 people attending the University of Salford, not far from Manchester, for the two day event.

I had submitted a talk and the camp organisers had accepted it and also decided to make me a featured speaker, which was an incredible honour. As such I was part of the communications being sent out in the weeks before the event.

Since this is more or less a local event for me I decided to travel in on both days rather than get a hotel or anything. The rain and wind of the previous week had abated and the Saturday morning saw some of the warmest (and driest) weather we had seen in the north west for a few months.

This year, DrupalCamp Scotland was held on the 7th November, at the University of Edinburgh.

On the morning of the conference I made the quick walk from by bed and breakfast and arrived at 50 George Square to join in with around 60 attendees to a day of talks and chatting.

The morning coffee and a selection of pastries was set out in the corridor outside the main room of the conference. I'm sure a few of the tasty pastries were lost to passing students.

After getting settled in we had a quick introduction session by Stratos Filalthis before we started the day.

LocalGov Drupal Camp 2025 was held in The Abbey Community Centre (near Westminster Abbey in London) on July 3rd 2025. I travelled down (despite the English rail network's attempts to the contrary) for the day as an attendee.

It was a hot day in London on the 3rd July, and thankfully the Abbey Community Centre had lots of doors and windows that we could open to let some air through. Including a few fans dotted around to try and keep the rooms cool.

After a small icebreaker, where people stood up if this was their first LocalGov Camp or what sort of role they have, we started the camp with an introductory session.

The first DrupalCamp in England was held this weekend (1st March 2025) in Cambridge. I drove down on the Friday with Chris Maiden to attend (and speak!) at the event.

We arrived early at the event and and started the day with a much needed coffee (or two) and started chatting with the other attendees.

The opening session was a keynote from Baddý Sonja Breidert, who talked about AI, the success of Drupal and the Drupal CMS system, and about the success of the Drupal community. 

DrupalCamp Scotland returned after a small hiatus of 5 years on the 25th October 2024 and saw nearly 50 people attend the university of Edinburgh Paterson's Land building for a day of talks and sessions. I had the honor of being invited to speak at the conference, which was the first physical speaking session I've had since 2019.

I arrived early to the conference on a sunny Friday morning after driving up the night before. After a cup of coffee and a lovely chat with a few people we started the conference.

DrupalCamp London 2017 was held on the 4th and 5th of March at the newly refurbished main hall of City, University of London. The new facilities are really nice and keep the conference in the same area, but they aren't too small that it feels cramped.

DrupalCamp London, now in it's 4th year, was held of the weekend of the 4th, 5th and 6th of March at The University of London campus in London. Myself and a few other developers from Manchester headed down for the weekend to attend. I wasn't able to attend the CXO day on the 4th, but we were all in attendance for the camp event.

Nearly a month has passed since my visit to London for this year's DrupalCamp and I thought I would put my thoughts down on the blog. I went down with a group of colleagues from my company Access on the Friday night before the event, having arranged a flat through Airbnb for all of us to stay in. After some beers and a burger we were ready for the main event on Saturday morning.

I'm just letting all my neurons cool down after a fantastic Drupal Camp at City University, London. These Drupal camps are getting bigger, better, and much more frequent in a really, feely, organic way. They never feel like there is a sponsor driven sales push to use this service or that, moreover, it genuinely does feel like a community of like minded people, groups of people, willingly sharing their knowledge, ideas, and enthusiasm in what it is they are doing, using, or believe in.
